Laguna Don Tomás Park is the largest green space in Santa Rosa, capital of La Pampa province, spreading over some five hundred hectares around a broad lagoon west of the city centre. It is where locals come to run, walk, cycle, picnic and grill at weekends. Named after the city's founder, Tomás Mason, it has a small decorative lighthouse on its shore, a viewpoint facing Bird Island, where waterbirds nest, a flora and fauna interpretation centre, a swimming pool, sports fields, a running track and a bike path. Paddling, kayaking and fishing are allowed on the lagoon, and a small tourist train called the Puelchito runs here from Plaza San Martín. Entry is free; sunset is loveliest, when the coloured sky reflects on the water.
