Laguna Querococha is a lake in Recuay province, Ancash, Peru, on the western side of the Cordillera Blanca, about 30 km southeast of Huaraz in a straight line. Its Quechua name probably means lake of the ceremonial drinking vessel, or wood lake. The lake lies at 3,980 metres and is about 2.4 km long and about 870 metres wide at its widest point. Peaks of the Cordillera Blanca surround it, including Yanamarey and Pucaraju to the northeast and Mururaju to the southeast. Dark blue water fills a wide valley of dry golden grass, backed by sharp rocky peaks and distant snow-capped mountains. Skies are usually clear in the dry season, and the mountains reflect on the water. The lake lies beside the road from Huaraz towards the archaeological site of Chavín de Huántar, so visitors stop on the way for photos and a short walk along the shore. The altitude is high and the air is cold, so bring a jacket and move slowly.
