A shallow, clear lagoon on the Atacama salt flat, its floor coated in white crystallised salt and its thin, still water reflecting sky and mountains like a mirror, so it is sometimes hard to tell land from sky. It is best known for sunset: visitors gather on its shore at the end of the day as the Andes to the east and Licancabur volcano turn pink and violet, light glints on water and salt, and the first stars appear in the clear desert sky. It is usually the finale of the nearby lagoons tour, after Laguna Cejar and the Ojos del Salar. Paths cross the salt, walking on the hard white crust is a strange experience, and flamingos sometimes appear in the distance. Swimming is not allowed here, and keep to the paths to protect the thin salt crust. It cools fast after sunset, so bring a jacket.
