Water like glass

A small lake hidden in the rainforest of south Kerinci whose name means glass lake, for water so astonishingly clear, a turquoise blue in which the bottom and sunken tree trunks can be plainly seen, that locals say it seems to glow by moonlight. Visitors reach it on foot from Lempur village in about two to three hours through the forest, on a sometimes muddy path, with a local guide. Along the way are giant trees and the sounds of the forest, and on the shore visitors rest and some swim in the cold water. The lake lies inside Kerinci Seblat National Park, where the foreigners' fee is about IDR 150,000 per day and Indonesians' much less, with guides paid separately. Set off in the morning with good shoes, water and food, and avoid days of heavy rain. Combine it with nearby Lake Kerinci on the way back.

The lake is fed by pure mineral-rich underground springs over a limestone bed, which keeps the water clear and turquoise.
