Lake Liqenat, also known as Lake Kuqishta, is a mountain lake in the Accursed Mountains of western Kosovo, at 1,970 m. With its green water and surrounding pine forest, it is among the finest sights in the Rugova area. Visitors to the Rugova Canyon and climbers of nearby peaks come here for cool air and a quieter outing than Peja. The lake lies near the peaks of Leqinat at 2,341 m and Guri i Kuq at 2,522 m, and people climbing them often pass by. It belongs to a beautiful mountain area on the country's western edge. It has no notable written history, as its fame rests on its natural setting and nearby walking routes. The path reaches calm water mirroring grey walls and thick forest, with old tree trunks scattered along the shore. In spring patches of snow linger on the slopes above the lake, and in summer the water turns a strong green. From the heights around it you see the whole lake as a circle among the pines. It is about 16 km in a straight line from Peja, and the road passes through the beautiful Rugova Canyon, so ask in Peja about the state of the last stretch. Bring warm clothes, water and walking shoes, as the weather changes quickly. Snow covers it in winter, so June to September is the best time. Take your rubbish with you and keep to the paths.
