A small, peaceful lake in the heart of the forests of Dilijan National Park, whose name means the clear lake, surrounded by beech, oak and maple, its green water mirroring the forest in a tranquil scene, and a favourite family outing in the region. An easy walking path circles the lake in about half an hour, with rowing boats and canoes for hire, a restaurant and café on the shore, a zip line over the water and picnic and barbecue areas under the trees. From the lake a marked mountain trail leads through the forest to Gosh village and Goshavank Monastery, a three-to-four-hour hike counted among the finest walks in Armenia, especially in autumn when the leaves turn red and gold. Entry is free, and the boats and zip line charge. It gets busy on summer weekends, so weekdays or early mornings are best.
