Mount Seminung

Sumatra's second-largest lake after Toba, a broad volcanic lake on the border between South Sumatra and Lampung provinces at about five hundred metres, overlooked by the volcano Mount Seminung rising straight from its shore, and ringed by green hills, villages and coffee gardens. Visitors enjoy a boat trip across the lake to a small island in its middle, hot springs on its shore where hot water mixes with the lake, a small waterfall nearby, and grilled lake fish at restaurants on the water. The climate is mild and fresh, and the place is quiet and uncrowded. Entry to the parks on the shore is a small fee of about ten thousand rupiah, and boats are cheap. The lakeside town of Banding Agung has hotels and simple guesthouses. The lake is remote, about six to seven hours by car from Palembang or Bandar Lampung, so allow two nights; hikers can climb Mount Seminung.
