Lake Salda is a mid-size crater lake in southwest Turkey, in the Yeşilova district of Burdur Province, about 50 km west of Burdur and 64 km southeast of Pamukkale in a straight line. The lake covers 43.7 square kilometres and reaches 196 metres deep, one of the deepest lakes in Turkey. It is known for its carbonate-rich sediments and the hydromagnesite mineral on its shores, believed to help some skin conditions. Black pine forests surround it. Snow-white sand lines the shores, and the clear water shades from pale turquoise near the edge to deep blue. Seven small white islets stand in the lake, with green hills around, so it looks like a tropical beach in the middle of Anatolia. Visitors walk the white beaches, swim in the clear water in summer and stroll in the surrounding forests. The shores are protected, so keep to the marked paths and do not take the white sand; the lake makes a good trip from Pamukkale.
