The largest lake in Armenia and in the whole Caucasus, a broad blue freshwater lake at about 1,900 metres above sea level, ringed by bare mountains and green pastures, which Armenians call the pearl of Armenia and where Yerevan escapes the summer heat. Its water shifts between deep blue and turquoise with the weather and light, and the view from the northern peninsula, where Sevanavank Monastery stands on its hill, is among the best known in the country. Small towns and restaurants serving local trout line its shores. On the north shore near the town of Sevan are sandy beaches, resorts and hotels where people swim in July and August despite the cool water, along with boat trips and jet skis. In the other seasons the lake stays a quiet place to stroll and take photographs. Access to the lake and most public beaches is free, and some private beaches charge admission. The weather at this altitude is much cooler than in Yerevan, so bring a jacket even in summer.

Yes in July and August, though the water is fairly cold because of the altitude.
