A crescent-shaped lake within Jambi city, formed from an old bend of the Batanghari River cut off from its course, now a calm lake ringed by timber houses on stilts and floating fish farms. Its shore has become a city park, with a promenade, platforms, gardens and floating restaurants serving fresh fish from the lake, and small boats and pedal boats can be hired to tour the water. Jambi's people come in the late afternoon and at weekends. The park is usually free, with small charges for boats and activities. The best time is sunset, when the sky's colour is mirrored in the water. The lake is close to the Al-Falah Great Mosque and the Gentala Arasy bridge, so end a day in the city here and try grilled fish at its floating restaurants.
