The Landwasser Viaduct is a curved, six-arched stone railway viaduct spanning the Landwasser river between Schmitten and Filisur in the canton of Graubünden in eastern Switzerland, about 22 km south of Chur and 24 km northwest of St. Moritz in a straight line. Designed by Alexander Acatos, it was built in 1901–1902 for the Rhaetian Railway, which still owns and runs it. It is a signature structure of the UNESCO-listed Albula Railway, 65 metres high and 136 metres long, and its southeastern end runs straight into a tunnel in a rock face. The dark stone arches rise gracefully on tall piers above a deep valley covered in pine forest, and the viaduct curves so that the train enters the vertical cliff directly. When a red train crosses, it seems to emerge from the mountain suspended in the air. Visitors see the viaduct from viewpoints on a walking path from Filisur station, or cross it on the Albula line or the Glacier Express. The path to the viewpoint is fairly short, and the finest sight is when a train passes.
