Laura Beach is a white-sand beach at the western end of Majuro Atoll, capital of the Marshall Islands. Clear, shallow turquoise water meets the sand, big trees cast shade along the shore, and coconut palms line the horizon. The beach is at Laura village, at the end of the road that runs about 50 km from the centre of the capital. Laura has Majuro's highest point, under 3 m above the sea. The village is quieter than the town centre, and Majuro families come out at weekends to swim and picnic. You swim in the calm, clear water, walk the sand and sit in the shade of the trees. It is loveliest at sunset, when the sun goes down over the water. The beach is about 38 km in a straight line west of central Majuro, roughly an hour's drive. The landowning families collect a small entry fee that goes to cleaning. There are few places to eat nearby, so bring food and water, take your rubbish with you, and dress modestly out of the water.
