A small spring in the mountainside about 2 km southwest of Rum village, named after the British officer T. E. Lawrence, «Lawrence of Arabia», who passed through Wadi Rum during the Arab Revolt of 1916–18. A short scramble up steps and rocks leads to the spring, with green plants clinging to the rock, a striking sight in a desert where water is rare. The real prize is the view from up here: a wide red-sand valley ringed by sandstone and granite mountains, often with camels resting at the foot of the trail. The spring is a stop on the 4x4 tours, and half an hour is enough to climb up and back. Wear closed shoes, carry water and avoid the climb in the midday heat.
