Waterfalls tumbling from towering, layered cliffs near the mountain village of Laza in Qusar district, close to the Shahdag resort, in a valley ringed by peaks of the Greater Caucasus, and one of the loveliest natural sights in northern Azerbaijan. In spring and summer the water runs from melting snow, falling in white ribbons down the high rock walls; in winter it freezes into huge columns of ice that draw photographers and ice climbers. Laza village itself lies in a green valley between the mountains, with stone houses and pastures, and a few minutes' walk from the road leads to the foot of the falls and the quiet valley. Visiting is free. The road from the Shahdag resort is short but mountainous, so a suitable car is advisable in winter. The rocks near the falls are slippery, especially when frozen, so watch your step.
