An island in Haizhou Bay north of Lianyungang, 7.57 square kilometres in area and about nine kilometres from east to west, eighty per cent of it covered in forest; a long sea dyke links its west end to the mainland, and it is part of the Yuntai Mountain national scenic area. Its people live from fishing and tourism, and its best-known spots are two beaches: Dashawan, with its wide sands and rides, and Sumawan, a crescent bay ringed by hills on three sides, and a cliff-edge boardwalk runs above the sea. Tickets cost CNY 50 from May to October and 30 the rest of the year, covering both beaches and valid for two days; it is open from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, to 4.40 pm in winter, and the island shuttle costs 20 for the day, per visitor guides.
