A village of the Li family since the Song dynasty, whose white houses with grey roofs line both banks of a small stream crossed by short stone bridges, the scene the Chinese sum up as «small bridges, flowing water, homes»; it is one of Wuyuan's best-known and most visited villages. The village was known for its scholars: nine of its sons passed the highest imperial examinations under the Song, one under the Ming and three under the Qing, and in the late Qing many of its men left to trade, most of them as tea merchants. Four Ming houses and dozens of Qing houses survive, the best known being the Dafudi mansion with its carved gateway. Visitors wander the paved lanes along the stream and cross its small stone bridges, and in the evening red lanterns light up the houses. Tickets cost CNY 60, and the village is included in the Wuyuan combined pass at CNY 210 for five days covering fourteen sites, per visitor guides.
