A small lake on a plateau north-west of Tbilisi that has become one of city people's favourite outings since its shores were renewed, with a loop path of about three kilometres around the water, lined with pines, gardens and small cafés, and the Caucasus visible in the distance on clear days. The path is flat and easy, used for running, cycling and walking with children, with playgrounds, picnic and barbecue areas and moorings for small boats in summer. In winter the lake sometimes freezes, and in spring and autumn the surrounding hills turn colourful. Entry is free and always open; some activities such as boats and bikes cost a little. Swimming is not encouraged in most places, as the lake is for walks and picnics. It is calmer than the Tbilisi Sea and closer to the new residential districts. It is about twenty minutes by taxi from the centre; the best time is late afternoon in spring and autumn.
