Los Penitentes is a mountain village on National Route 7 in the Andes, about 170 kilometres from Mendoza city and 25 kilometres from the Chilean border, close to Aconcagua and the Puente del Inca. Its name, «the Penitents», comes from pointed rock spires on the facing mountain that look like a line of monks at prayer. The village was once a well-known ski resort, its top runs at 3,194 metres, but the resort stood idle for many years. Since 2026 it has partly come back to life as «Penitentes Park»: a mountain park for outings and snow play, with a panoramic chairlift back in service since April 2026, equipment rental and food stalls, though not a full ski resort as before. The village awaits an investment plan to bring the lifts back gradually. The park opens daily 09:00-17:00. The village makes a stop on a Route 7 trip to Aconcagua and the Puente del Inca; in winter the road can close for snow.
