An ancient Taoist site at the foot of the Qinling Mountains in Zhouzhi County, about 70 km west of Xi'an, where tradition says the sage Laozi wrote the Tao Te Ching, the founding book of Taoist thought, and delivered it to his disciple Yin Xi, keeper of the pass. It combines a historic culture area on the plain, with halls, temples and red galleries newly built in old style among ponds and trees, and a national forest park on the hillside where the old «Sutra Platform» stands, where Laozi is said to have taught; visitors are asked to keep quiet and respect the site. The culture area is free from 9 am to 6 pm, while the forest park costs CNY 70, per visitor guides.
