Ľubovňa Castle is a medieval castle in northern Slovakia, overlooking the town of Stará Ľubovňa from a 548-metre limestone hill above the left bank of the Poprad river, about 41 km northeast of Poprad in a straight line. It is the landmark of the Ľubovňa basin. The castle dates from the second half of the 13th century or the early 14th century and was built as a border guard castle protecting trade routes into Poland. Some historians date it to around 1280, when the round tower and Gothic palace were built, and it was enlarged in the early 14th century with another palace to the east. Today it is partly preserved and restored. A white round tower with a conical roof rises above battlemented stone walls, surrounded by sloping green meadows and forest, and from the top the view opens over the town, the valley and the hills around. Visitors explore the castle courtyards and halls, climb the tower for the view, then go down to the open-air museum of traditional wooden houses at the foot of the hill. The castle makes a trip from Poprad or the Pieniny area.
