Lucky Bay is a beach in Cape Le Grand National Park in Western Australia, about 35 km southeast of the town of Esperance in a straight line and 631 km southeast of Perth. It is among the park's most beautiful beaches, along with Hellfire Bay, Thistle Cove and Le Grand Beach. The park was established in 1966 and covers about 318 square kilometres. Its land is very old, above sea level for more than 200 million years and never glaciated, so ancient relict plants and animals survive there. The park takes its name from an officer on a French expedition of 1792. Western grey kangaroos are common, and wildflowers bloom in spring until October. Brilliant white sand runs in a long curve in front of clear turquoise water, with granite hills and green scrub around the bay and small islands of the Recherche Archipelago offshore. On sunny days the water takes on tropical colours. Visitors swim and walk the sand, may see kangaroos near the beach, and climb nearby granite peaks to see the bay from above. Please do not feed the wildlife.
