A seafront promenade running about a mile along the Bay of Banderas in the heart of Puerto Vallarta, between the old town centre and the «Romantic Zone» south of the Cuale River, which it crosses on a small bridge. It is where visitors and locals gather in the evening. Along it stands a collection of modern bronze sculptures by Mexican and international artists, the best known being «The Boy on the Seahorse», now the city's symbol, alongside fanciful, strangely shaped pieces. There is a small lighthouse and the stone arches known as Los Arcos, where performances are held. The best time to walk it is sunset, when the sun drops into the bay with green mountains behind the town, and the walkway fills with families, vendors and street performers. Behind it, cobbled streets climb to white houses with tiled roofs. From December to March humpback whales enter the bay to breed, and whale-watching trips leave from the marina. The promenade is safe and lit at night, with many seafood restaurants around it.
