A deep rift cut by the Maling River, a tributary of the Nanpan, about six kilometres north-east of Xingyi. It runs 74.8 km, 50 to 100 m wide and 120 to 280 m deep, and is one of China's national scenic areas. Waterfalls pour down its walls among hanging bamboo and moss, limestone caves link up along it, and visitors walk paths on the canyon floor between the falls. It is one of China's best-known white-water rafting runs, with a course of more than fifty kilometres through dozens of rapids, and has become a national kayak training base. Tickets cost CNY 80 from March to November and 50 in winter, including the lift and cable car, with rafting charged separately, open from 8 am to 5.30 pm, per visitor guides; it is at its best in the rainy season, when the falls run full.
