Mangue Seco is a small fishing village at the far northern end of the Bahia coast, in Jandaíra municipality, on the bank of the Real river that divides Bahia from Sergipe, home to no more than a few hundred people. Its few streets are covered in soft white sand, with dunes and coconut groves along the sea around it. It became famous across Brazil after the TV serial «Tieta» was filmed here, adapted from Jorge Amado's novel Tieta do Agreste. Visitors come for buggy rides over the dunes and swimming in the sea. The easiest approach is from Aracaju, about 80 km away, then a boat across the river of about a quarter of an hour from one of three landings: Porto do Mato, Terra Caída or Pontal.
