A slender white waterfall dropping from the top of a green rock wall into the Pastaza River deep in the gorge, its Spanish name meaning «the bride's veil», as its flowing threads of water recall a long white veil. It is one of the loveliest stops on the famous Waterfall Route east of Baños. The classic way to see it is the tarabita, a small open cable car that crosses the gorge on a wire above the river, passing close to the falls so you see them head-on amid spray and greenery. From the far side short trails drop to the base. The Waterfall Route runs between Baños and the town of Puyo, descending towards the Amazon forests, past more than ten waterfalls, the best known being Agoyán, Manto de la Novia and Pailón del Diablo. Many rent bikes in Baños and ride it downhill, returning by pick-up or bus. The road has tunnels and traffic, so keep to the bike lanes where they exist. Clear days are best for photos.
