Mariánské Lázně, known in German as Marienbad, is a spa town in the Cheb district of the Karlovy Vary Region in western Czechia, about 31 km southwest of Karlovy Vary in a straight line. It has about 14,000 residents and lies within the Slavkovský les protected landscape area. Most of the town's buildings date from its golden era in the second half of the 19th century, when celebrities and Europe's leading rulers came to take the cure in its carbon-dioxide-rich springs. Its centre and spa landscape are protected as an urban monument reservation, and in 2021 it became part of the transnational UNESCO site «Great Spa Towns of Europe». At the heart of town stands the long spa colonnade of decorative iron and glass in yellow and white, with a singing fountain in front whose jets dance to music. Wide flowering gardens, grand white and yellow buildings, domed spring pavilions and forested hills surround it. Visitors stroll the gardens and colonnades, taste the mineral springs and watch the singing fountain show. They walk the surrounding forest paths, and the town makes a trip from Karlovy Vary.
