Marimbus is a wetland in the heart of the Chapada Diamantina, nicknamed the «Pantanal of Bahia», protected largely by Chapada Diamantina National Park and in the rest by the Marimbus–Iraquara protected area. It lies between the municipalities of Lençóis and Andaraí. It is a system of lagoons and flooded land fed mainly by the Santo Antônio River together with the São José and Utinga, which in turn collect rivers rising in the park's mountains. Its total area is 1,250 square kilometres, and studies have recorded fish species found nowhere else. The wetland is explored by wooden canoe and kayak, reached via the BA-142 road, and the Remanso community, descendants of escaped enslaved people, lives in the area. It makes a calm half-day among birds and water plants; book it with a local guide.
