A broad waterfront promenade in Ernakulam, central Kochi, looking out over the backwater and the harbour mouth; it is the city's favourite evening escape, backed by apartment towers and shopping centres. It runs between two distinctive bridges, one of them shaped like a rainbow, with benches and shady seating areas from which you can watch ships, ferries and small boats crossing the water, with the harbour islands on the horizon. Boat trips around the harbour and its islands leave from the jetty, including sunset cruises past Bolgatty Island and the Chinese fishing nets at Fort Kochi, along with cheap public ferries. Walking it is free at any time; sunset and evening, when the towers and bridges light up, are best. It pairs well with shopping in Ernakulam's nearby malls.
