Mata da Pipa State Park is a reserve in Tibau do Sul, close to the famous beach village of Pipa south of Natal, created by state decree over 299.88 hectares carved out of the existing Bonfim/Guaraíras environmental protection area. The park aims to preserve the area's remaining Atlantic Forest and to support scientific research and environmental education, and it is managed by the state environment institute, Idema. Coloured coastal cliffs and dunes surround the forest, making it one of the last large green spaces between Pipa and the neighbouring villages. Travel guides mention trails leading to lookouts and protected areas; it should not be confused with the nearby private Santuário Ecológico de Pipa, which charges for entry. It suits a shady walk away from the beach crowds; check access and open trails with Idema before going.
