A concrete dam in the Kannan Devan Hills near Munnar, more than 83 m high and about 238 m long, built to store water for hydroelectric power; its wide lake among mountains and tea fields has become one of Munnar's best-loved stops. Tea-covered hills and forest surround the lake, which is known for speedboats and pedal boats, and herds of wild elephants sometimes appear on the banks to drink. The road to the dam passes vast tea estates and viewpoints, a historic dairy farm stands nearby, and visitors usually stop here on the way to Echo Point and Kundala Lake. Viewing is free, while boats have their own prices. Mist often rolls in after midday, so mornings are best for photos, and it's cool all year, so bring a light jacket.
