A memorial complex in Ejin Horo Banner, south of Ordos, where Mongols honour Genghis Khan as their ancestor and the founder of their state; it is in fact a cenotaph, since his real tomb has never been found and the coffin holds no body, only headdresses and belongings, and Mongols traditionally call it «the Lord's Enclosure». The present halls were built in 1954–1956 in traditional Mongol style: three linked halls under domes tiled in blue and gold in the shape of Mongolian tents, fronted by a great gateway, a broad square and long stairways; traditional ceremonies are held here in certain seasons. Tickets are about CNY 170 in season and 150 in winter, and it is open from 7 am to 7 pm from late April to early October and from 8 am to 5.30 pm in winter, per visitor guides. It is about an hour by car south of central Ordos.
