An old Batak village on the southern shore of Lake Toba near the town of Balige, where green rice terraces run straight down to the lake's water, ringed by high hills, a scene counted among Toba's most beautiful and peaceful. The village has traditional Batak houses with curved roofs and carving, and women weaving Batak ulos cloth on hand looms outside their homes, from whom pieces can be bought directly. A small jetty on the shore looks over the water and mountains. Wandering is free; please respect residents' privacy and ask before close-up photos. The village lies off the usual circuit around Parapat and Samosir, about half an hour from Balige, so it suits those driving around the lake, with the Sipinsur geosite on the same route.
