One of southern China's best-known plum blossom spots, a garden on a hillside west of Wuxi a short way from Lake Tai, created in the early twentieth century by the Rong brothers, leading industrialists of Wuxi, who planted thousands of plum trees. Today it holds more than five thousand plum trees of many varieties, blooming between February and March in white, pink and deep red; a plum blossom festival is held every year, and their scent fills the stone paths and pavilions on the hill. At the top of the garden a small tower of several storeys looks over the trees and out to the lake on the horizon, with carved rocks, flower beds and potted bonsai among the trees, and it makes a quiet walk in other seasons too. Tickets are about CNY 35 in plum season, from January to 20 May, and about CNY 30 the rest of the year, with opening from 6:00 to 18:00, per visitor guides.
