A bridal crown
Shaped like the golden siger.
A striking golden tower on a hill above Bakauheni port at the southern tip of Sumatra, where ferries from Java dock after crossing the Sunda Strait. It is designed in the shape of the siger, Lampung's traditional bridal crown with its golden points, is the province's symbol, and marks kilometre zero of the long Trans-Sumatra road. Travellers see the tower from the ferry before reaching port, the first thing to greet them in Sumatra. The hill around it looks over the port, the strait and islands, with the coast of Java visible on clear days. Inside is a small exhibition on Lampung culture. Entry is a token fee. It is open in daytime, loveliest at sunset or on a clear morning. The tower is about an hour and a half from Bandar Lampung on the toll road, a natural stop for those arriving from or leaving for Java by ferry.
