A taste of Minas.
Uberlândia's Municipal Market is a historic market in the city centre. It was planned in 1923 but only built in 1944, and served as the wholesale hub until 1977, when the wholesale trade moved to a new central market in the east of the city and the building became a market for the typical produce of Minas Gerais. The market is known for traditional homemade products, above all the sweets and local cheeses the state is proud of, alongside choice fruit and vegetables, honey and its by-products. There are also stalls for fish and seafood, meat and free-range chicken, small eateries, an Arab food counter, and craftsmen mending shoes and cutting keys, along with handicraft shops. It is not only for shopping: the market also has a space for theatre and a small art gallery. It is a good place to taste the flavours of Minas Gerais and buy edible gifts, and lies close to the historic squares of the centre.
