One of the largest and busiest malls in Malaysia, opened in 1999 in Mid Valley City at Kuala Lumpur's gateway from Petaling Jaya, and a favourite of city residents themselves rather than just tourists. It holds department stores, fashion, electronics and furniture shops, a big supermarket, a cinema, food courts and many restaurants. An indoor bridge links it to the more upmarket Gardens Mall, so you can move between the two without going outside. Next to it is an exhibition centre that hosts big travel, electronics and book fairs through the year, drawing thousands of visitors, so check the calendar if you enjoy that sort of thing. It usually opens daily from ten in the morning to ten at night; get there by KTM Komuter train to Mid Valley station, which connects to it, or by taxi in about a quarter of an hour from the centre depending on traffic. Avoid weekends if you dislike crowds.

Mid Valley is bigger, more varied and mid-priced, while the connected Gardens Mall is calmer with more upmarket brands; you can visit both together.
