Mida Creek is a shallow tidal inlet ringed by mangrove forest near Watamu, on the Kenyan coast north of Mombasa. The scene changes completely with the tide, and it is among the calmest places on the coast, drawing bird and nature lovers to travel by traditional wooden boat among the tree roots. It is linked to the Watamu marine area and is home to shore birds and mangroves. Local people fish its waters, and you will see their small wooden boats moving across it, which gives the place a calm local character. Boats set out along brown channels among mangrove roots, then come out onto wide blue water under an open sky. To one side are a rocky headland, a small island and white sand that appears at low tide. You may see storks and birds of prey, especially near the trees. It is 24 km in a straight line from Malindi and 68 km from Jumba la Mtwana. Planning around the tide matters, as some channels can be crossed only at high water, so ask a local guide about the right time. Bring a hat, sun protection and shoes that can take mud, wear a life jacket if offered and agree the price before setting off.
