Yokohama's modern central district on the waterfront, developed since the 1980s as a new urban centre linking the historic Kannai area with Yokohama Station, and now a hub of business, shopping and tourism. It has tall towers, above all the Landmark Tower, hotels, convention centres, art museums, shopping centres, a central pedestrian mall and the Cosmo World amusement park, whose 100-metre Cosmo Clock 21, once the world's tallest Ferris wheel, lights up at night. Visitors love its harbourside promenades and parks, including the broad Rinko Park on the water, and the night view when the towers and the Ferris wheel reflect in the harbour. The Sky Garden observation deck on the 69th floor of the Landmark Tower is closed for renovation until 2028, per visitor guides. Walking around is free; take the Minatomirai Line or go from Sakuragichō Station, about 30 minutes by train from Tokyo. Evening is the best time.
