In the river valley.
The Mirador de los Cóndores, the Condors' Lookout, is El Chaltén's shortest and closest trail, starting near the Los Glaciares visitor centre at the edge of the village and climbing a small hill in about an hour. From the top the whole village lies below in the Río de las Vueltas valley, with Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre behind on clear days, and condors often circle over the rocks. The trail continues to the Mirador de las Águilas, the Eagles' Lookout, with a view east over the vast Lake Viedma. Many choose it on arrival day, on a day when mist hides the distant peaks, or to watch the sunset over the village. The trail is part of the El Chaltén sector of Los Glaciares National Park and passes a control point where the park fee, bought online, is checked. The wind is strong at the top, so bring a jacket.
