Cuenca's best-known lookout, on Turi hill south of the city, with a sweeping view over the whole city in its valley among mountains: red-tiled roofs, the blue domes of the New Cathedral, white towers, and the four rivers that cross the city in green lines of trees. At the top is a broad terrace with a stone balustrade, a small white church, craft shops and little cafés with panoramic views, where visitors sit over coffee or fruit juice with the view. Sunset is lovely here, then the whole city sparkles with lights at night. On the road up the hill are ceramics and art workshops, best known that of artist Eduardo Vega, famed for colourful ceramics and murals, which is worth a stop. Get there by short taxi from the centre, or on the double-decker tourist bus that stops here. Clear mornings show the distant mountains best.
