The Miradouro do Suberco is a terrace on the edge of a high cliff in Nazaré's Sítio district, looking over a long crescent of sand beach, the town's white houses with orange roofs, and the blue Atlantic. Nazaré has three districts: Praia on the beach, Sítio, the old village on the cliff, and Pederneira on a hill. A funicular links the beach with Sítio. Nazaré is famous for its giant winter waves, and the tallest wave ever surfed, 26.2 m, was ridden here in 2020. It is one of the best-known resorts on Portugal's Silver Coast. You ride the funicular or walk up, stand on the terrace to take in the whole beach, then walk to the lighthouse on the headland, where people watch the big waves in winter. It is about 700 m in a straight line northwest of central Nazaré. The wind is strong on the cliff, so keep back from the edge.
