The Cave Bath is a thermal bath set inside a natural cave in Miskolctapolca, the resort district southwest of Miskolc in northeastern Hungary, about 5 km from the city centre in a straight line. It is counted among the most beautiful baths in Hungary. The name Tapolca comes from a Slavic word meaning bath, and the place was already mentioned in the Middle Ages. The city of Miskolc bought land here in the early 20th century and the area became an official resort; the Cave Bath opened in 1959, and an open-air pool was added in 1969. The bath runs about 150 metres, with both indoor and open-air pools, some of them inside a large natural cave. Visitors swim in warm blue water between white rock walls and dim passages that open into small chambers, with a narrow rock tunnel linking the pools. In front of the bath lies a large park with a boating lake. Visitors spend hours moving between the pools and rock passages and relaxing in the park outside. The bath is open all year, so it works in winter too; bring swimwear, a towel and flip-flops.
