Mitsamiouli Beach is a white-sand beach in the north of Grande Comore, near the town of Mitsamiouli. The area is known for its many white beaches and rows of coconut palms. It is the island's best-known tourist area, with lodging from simple bungalows to large hotels. Mitsamiouli is the seat of the Mitsamiouli-Mboudé prefecture, with about seven thousand people. The area has remains of royal palaces from the old sultanate era. The town mixes Bantu and Arab roots, reflected in its buildings. The island's northern shores have calmer, clearer water than others. You see fine white sand scattered with black volcanic rocks, calm turquoise water and dense rows of coconut palms along the shore. Behind lie dirt tracks among the trees and small fishing boats. The scene contrasts white, black and green. It is about 2 km from Mitsamiouli town in a straight line and about 36 km from Moroni. Swim in calm spots and watch for sharp volcanic rock in the water. Bring sun protection.
