A hilltop palace west of Udaipur overlooking Fateh Sagar Lake, also called Sajjangarh Palace, built in 1884 for Maharana Sajjan Singh of Mewar; its popular name comes from its main purpose, watching the monsoon clouds roll in. The maharana is said to have built it on this high spot to see his ancestral home at Chittorgarh, and today its terraces give a panoramic view over Udaipur's lakes and palaces and the countryside stretching to the horizon. It sits inside the Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, reached by a winding hill road through the trees, where deer and birds may appear, and it is one of the city's best sunset spots. Small fees are charged for the sanctuary and the palace, per visitor guides, and you drive up or take the shuttle from the gate. Come just before sunset, when the city lights up below the hill.
