Mont-Tremblant is a city in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, about 130 km northwest of Montreal and 140 km northeast of Ottawa. It is known for the ski resort at the foot of the mountain, with its colourful village, and draws visitors for skiing in winter, forest colours in autumn, and lakes and cycling in summer. The present municipality took city status in 2000. The resort lies seven kilometres from the original village, at the foot of the mountain Mont Tremblant. The name comes from the local Algonquins, who called it the «trembling mountain». The area also has a well-known race track, which has hosted events including Formula One. You stroll the resort village among houses with red, blue and green roofs climbing the slope, with ski runs above that turn green in summer. Around it are dense forests that usually turn gold and red in late September and October, and the long, calm Lac Tremblant. Long cycling and walking paths cross the area. It is 113 km in a straight line from Montreal, reached by car or bus, and suits a long day trip or overnight stay. Prices vary widely between seasons, so book early for ski season and autumn. Bring warm clothes in winter and layers in autumn. The resort is well away from the original village, so check where you are staying.
