For anyone interested in writing instruments or industrial design, yes — the exhibition is well made and the workshops genuinely enjoyable. Otherwise no: the site is out west, away from every other Hamburg sight, and the content is ultimately about a single brand. If your time in Hamburg is limited, the harbour, the Speicherstadt and St Pauli have a clearly better claim.

The Montblanc Haus is a building opened in 2022 beside the company's Hamburg factory, part corporate museum and part experience space. The company was founded in Hamburg in 1906 and still makes its pens here, so the location is genuine rather than staged. The exhibition addresses the history of writing as much as the company: how writing implements developed across centuries, how the first pens were made, and historic pieces including pens used to sign well-known political documents. There is also a section on the making of the gold nib itself, a precise process running to dozens of steps. The most enjoyable part is interactive: small workshops where you try writing with fountain pens and learn the basics of handwriting, by advance booking. The building itself is architecturally striking, with a curved facade. But it should be said plainly that this is ultimately a corporate museum, and anyone expecting full curatorial neutrality will find the narrative favours its brand.
