Morro Branco, the «White Hill», is a large 1,580-metre peak in the north of the Vale do Pati, in the Caeté-Açu district of Palmeiras, inside Chapada Diamantina National Park in central Bahia. It rises close to and east of the village of Caeté-Açu. The mountain is made of sandstone of river origin and is clearly visible from the Pati do Meio, one of the main sights of this part of the park, along with the Morro do Gavião. At its foot lies the small settlement of Bomba. From its rocky summit you can see the whole Vale do Capão and, beyond, a vast mountainous region holding the sources of many of the area's largest rivers. The climb is long, over rock and mountain plants, and needs good fitness and a guide who knows the routes, so start early from Capão and carry water, food and a layer against the summit wind.
