A vast view.
Morro do Pai Inácio is a flat-topped mountain in Palmeiras and the most famous view in Chapada Diamantina: from its level summit the rocky tablelands and green valleys stretch as far as the eye can see, a scene that shifts with the light and clouds. It is listed as natural heritage for its geological value. A local 19th-century tale tells that an enslaved man named Pai Inácio, cornered on the summit, leapt off holding an umbrella and miraculously survived, and the mountain took his name. The climb to the top is short, about fifteen minutes to half an hour on a rocky path now fitted with steps, followed by a walk across the top. It is most popular at sunset, so bring a torch for the way down, and a jacket, as the wind is strong on top. Keep away from the edges.
