Durban's best-known football stadium, built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, holding more than fifty thousand spectators and crowned by a huge white arch that spans the whole stadium and rises more than a hundred metres above the pitch, now a symbol of the city. The arch was inspired by the South African flag, splitting at one end into two legs that join into one, expressing the country's unity. You can ride to the top in a cable car that travels along the arch, or climb its steps if you like adventure. The top of the arch gives a panoramic view over the city, the Indian Ocean and the Golden Mile beachfront. For thrill-seekers a giant swing drops from the arch over the pitch, one of the highest swings in the world. The cable car and activities are ticketed separately, with prices and times on the stadium's site. They stop in strong winds or during matches and concerts.
