A rocky gorge at the southern end of Daintree National Park, where the clear Mossman River runs between huge granite boulders through tropical rainforest, among the oldest living forests on Earth and UNESCO-listed. The gorge is the land of the Kuku Yalanji people, who run the visitor centre at its entrance and offer walks led by their own guides, explaining plants, medicines, bush food and ancestral stories, beginning with a traditional smoking welcome ceremony. From the centre, shuttle buses take visitors to the trailheads, where a suspension bridge crosses a creek and a loop walk of about two and a half kilometres winds among giant trees, with clear natural pools for swimming, though take care with currents after rain. The shuttle costs A$15.50 per adult and allows several rides on the same day, per the centre, with guided walks extra. Bring insect repellent and water.
